Take Action

February 26, 2025

We rely on your voice to advocate for our policy priorities. Join us to show our strength as a community that cares about endocrinology. Throughout the year, you will have the opportunity to participate in campaigns that support endocrinology research, care, professionals, and patients. Contact us to get more involved: [email protected].

Taking action by sending messages to your Congressional delegation makes a difference, and our online campaigns make it easy to do. Don't take it from us, hear from Rosa DeLauro, Ranking Member of the House Appropriations Committee, why your voice matters.

Tell Congress How Cutting Federal Funding Would Impact Your Work

Since January, there have been multiple actions to cut federal funding of research including an attempt to freeze all grants and an announcement that would limit indirect costs for NIH grants to 15%. These efforts would cause major harm to institution budgets, jeopardize lifesaving medical research, cause layoffs, suspend clinical trials, and disrupt ongoing research and laboratory support programsWhile federal judges have blocked these actions at least temporarily, we are concerned there will be further efforts to cut federal funding of research. Endocrine Society members are encouraged to join our campaign to share with your US Representative and Senators how cutting federal funding for your research would impact your work.

Urge Congress to Extend the Special Diabetes Program (SDP)

Funding for SDP is set to expire on March 31, 2025 unless Congress passes legislation to extend the program. Join the Endocrine Society in urging Congress to continue this program by passing legislation that would extend it for two years at $200 million per program per year. It is critical that members of Congress hear from you, the constituent, about the importance of this life-saving program. SDP is a federal program comprised of two components — the Special Diabetes Program for Type 1 Diabetes and the Special Diabetes Program for Indians. Congress created these programs in 1997 to advance research for type 1 diabetes at the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Disorders (NIDDK) and to provide treatment and education programs for type 2 diabetes among American Indians and Alaska Natives (AI/AN). Despite SDP's success and strong bipartisan support, the program is in jeopardy because time is running out for Congress to pass legislation before it expires.
