July 21, 2020

Session Description: Recent advances in our understanding of benefits and risks of newer diabetes agents have led to updated guidelines jointly developed by several professional societies. This session will feature two endocrinologists who will present illustrative cases and discuss practical implementation of the current T2D guidelines, including in the elderly, those with chronic kidney disease, atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, heart failure, and/or other special considerations.

Faculty: Rita R. Kalyani, MD, MHS
Johns Hopkins Medicine

Jennifer Green, MD

Learning Objectives:

  1. Prescribe and monitor diabetes pharmacotherapies for patients with significant comorbidities and/or complications.
  2. Recognize specific clinical situations in which best available evidence supports use of certain diabetes agents over others.
  3. Apply principles discussed in this session to modify medication regimens and implement strategies to minimize risk of hypoglycemia in older adults with diabetes.
