In Journal of the Endocrine Society, Sipos and colleagues evaluate the Elecsys Tg II thyroglobulin assay for ruling out structural disease in post-thyroidectomy patients with differentiated thyroid cancer. Ahmad et al. report on a small study that found effectiveness of radiofrequency ablation to treat neck metastases of thyroid cancer in the cervical lymph nodes. Tapia and associates describe differential gene expression effects of parabens, which are endocrine-disrupting chemicals, on luminal breast cancer cell lines of diverse genetic ancestry.
In JCEM Case Reports, Mastandrea and associates report on a rare case of pituitary apoplexy resulting from gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist use as an adjuvant in a patient with breast cancer. Kumar and colleagues describe a case of massive pheochromocytoma masquerading as nonfunctioning adrenocortical cancer. Sahota et al. report on a patient who, when treated for macroprolactinoma with a dopamine agonist, was able to stop insulin treatment of his autoimmune diabetes for 2 years.
In Endocrine Reviews, Gild and colleagues provide an update on the management and challenges of medullary thyroid cancer. Saenko and Mitsutake review our knowledge about radiation-related thyroid cancer. Brown and Scherer report on new findings linking adipose tissue and cancer.
In Endocrinology, Leandro-García and Landa review mechanisms underlying the progression of differentiated thyroid cancer to more aggressive forms. Dwyer and colleages describe the role of the glucocorticoid receptor in triple-negative breast cancer cell migration. Bae and coauthors assess the potential for early detection offered by circulating disseminated tumor cells in breast and prostate cancer.
In JCEM, Mukama et al. evaluate associations between insulin-like growth factor 1 levels and cancer as well as cardiovascular and all-cause morbidity and mortality. Kesby and associates describe the natural history of medullary thyroid microcarcinoma and assess predictive factors. And Pozdeyev and colleagues describe how adding a polygenic risk score to ultrasound-based thyroid nodule risk assessment improved their classification as benign or malignant.
