In Journal of the Endocrine Society, Kim and Seib review current knowledge about consequences of thyroid surgery in older adults with the aim of informing treatment decisions. Sipos and associates propose thyroglobulin cutoff values for ruling out differentiated thyroid cancer after partial or total thyroidectomy. Willems et al. report on a case series of patients with stress-induced Graves disease, some of whom experienced remission after relief of their stress.

In JCEM Case Reports, Reyes et al. describe partial success using teprotumumab to treat pretibial myxedema in a patient with Graves disease. McAninch and associates report on a patient with a large, symptomatic, multinodular goiter who underwent radio-frequency ablation with successful volume reduction of two nodules, but developed acute hyperthyroidism due to Graves disease eight weeks later. Villavicencio and two coauthors describe a patient with gestational transient thyrotoxicosis with hyperemesis gravidarum in a twin gestation complicated by thyroid storm.

In Endocrine Reviews, Gild and colleagues provide a comprehensive update on medullary thyroid cancer, including the use of RET-specific kinase inhibitors. Saenko and Mitsutake comprehensively review evidence about the occurrence of thyroid cancer after exposure to radiation, including exposures from nuclear accidents and nuclear weapons. Liu et al. discuss conventional and novel formulations of levothyroxine, one of the most widely prescribed drugs in the world and the mainstay of treatment for hypothyroidism.

In Endocrinology, Zhang and colleagues provide evidence from a Mendelian randomization study that a genetic predisposition to high levels of free thyroxine is negatively associated with the risk of hospitalization due to COVID19 and with very severe disease, although not with susceptibility to COVID19 infection. Hong et al. describe the use of single-cell RNA sequencing to identify age-related changes in a specific sub-group of cells in the thyroid. Leandro-García and Landa discuss in depth the mutations mechanistically linked with the progression of a range of types of thyroid cancer.

In JCEM, Biscarini and colleagues find characteristic changes in the gut microbiome of patients with Graves disease and Graves orbitopathy. Taylor and coauthors report on the factors predicting long-term outcome and the need for surgery in patients with Graves orbitopathy. And Chiosea et al. report on a comprehensive genomic analysis of over 50,000 fine-needle-aspiration samples of Bethesda III-VI thyroid nodules.
