Cherié Butts, PhD

Dr. Cherié Butts is Medical Director (Therapeutics Development Unit) at Biogen and has served in numerous roles since joining in 2012, including member of the Portfolio Transformation Team. Prior to Biogen, she conducted research on neuroendocrine regulation of immune responses and served as a reviewer of drug/biologics applications at the FDA. She earned degrees from Johns Hopkins University and UT MD Anderson Cancer Center and completed postdoctoral studies at the National Institutes of Health studying the role of steroid hormones in modifying immune responses in the context of autoimmunity and infectious diseases. 

She is passionate about providing opportunities for individuals from all backgrounds to contribute to biomedical research and works with several organizations. This includes serving as a Trustee/Board member of academic institutions (Beth Israel-Deaconess Medical Center/Harvard Medical School) and scientific organizations (Keystone Symposia). She also leverages an appointment on the board of Celebrity Series of Boston to foster a love of science by the public through the arts.
