At the Endocrine Society, we are committed to cultivating the next generation of healthcare leaders. Our Medical School Engagement Program (MSEP) plays a pivotal role in this mission, offering invaluable opportunities for medical students to learn, grow, and excel in their journey toward becoming our colleagues. This mission has taken on increased urgency in recent years.
Since 2010, there has been a 78% increase in the number of fellowship positions, while the number of U.S. MD medical school graduates applying to endocrinology has fallen by 4%. This July, fewer than one-third of first-year endocrine fellows are from a U.S. medical school.
In 2024, MSEP’s inaugural year, the Endocrine Society is funding ten institutions with this prestigious award to increase medical students’ interest in endocrinology by creating lasting partnerships with local faculty, other medical students and the Endocrine Society. To tackle this challenge effectively, we require sustainable funding for the future ahead.

The program aims to ensure the pipeline of future endocrinologists keeps flowing by connecting early-career and potential endocrinologists with established endocrinologists who will share their knowledge and excitement about the field.
