Sandro Loche, MD

Sandro Loche received his medical degree at the University of Cagliari in 1979, training in Pediatrics and Endocrinology at the University of Cagliari and in Pediatric Endocrinology at the Cornell University Medical College, New York. He is former Head of the Pediatric Endocrinology Unit of the Pediatric Hospital Microcitemico in Cagliari. His main areas of scientific interest include growth and growth disorders, neuroendocrine regulation of GH secretion, diagnosis and treatment of GH deficiency, childhood obesity. He has published over 200 articles, reviews and books. He has served as Editor of the Journal of Endocrinological Investigation and is currently associate editor of Frontiers in Endocrinology. He was awarded the 2015 the Cacciari Prize of the Italian Society for Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes (SIEDP/ISPED) for excellence in Pediatric Endocrinology. Sandro Loche has been an invited speaker to numerous national and international meetings and is a member of the Italian Society of Endocrinology (SIE), the Italian Society of Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes (SIEDP/ISPED), Italian Society of Obesity (SIO), Italian Society of Medical Endocrinology (AME), American Endocrine Society, European Society for Paediatric Endocrinology (ESPE), and European Neuroendocrine Association (ENEA).

What is your favorite Endocrine Society memory?

My first year of membership in 1989.

How has Endocrine Society supported your professional development/career journey?

Lots of scientific and clinical achievements and lots of interaction with international colleagues.

What experience led you to the study of the endocrine system?

By chance.

What is the best thing about what you are working on right now?

Care of my patients.

If Endocrine Society could add one benefit, what would it be?

Reduced fees for retired people.
