Fructose is sweeter than glucose and is often added to processed foods as a sweetener, commonly in the form of high-fructose corn syrup. Some studies suggest that fructose consumption may be associated with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, and some new research, recently presented at ENDO, addresses this issue. Host Aaron Lohr talks with one of the authors of this research, Theodore Friedman, MD, PhD, chairman of internal medicine at Charles R. Drew University of Medicine & Science and professor of medicine at University of California, Los Angeles. Dr. Friedman and colleagues’ oral presentation at ENDO 2022 is titled, “Fructose Consumption in Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease in U.S. Adult Population of NHANES 17-18” (NHANES being a national health and nutrition examination survey).
