In Journal of the Endocrine Society, Bartz-Kurycki and associates use patient data to argue that expanded criteria for surgery would benefit older patients with asymptomatic primary hyperparathyroidism. Mosca and coauthors describe the effects of teriparatide, abaloparatide, and parathyroid-related protein (1−36) on the murine osteoblast transcriptome. Charoenngam et al. report on a case series of patients with chronic hypoparathyroidim treated by continuous subcutaneous delivery of recombinant human parathyroid hormone.

In JCEM Case Reports, Portales-Castillo et al. describe an unusual case of normal levels of ionized calcium despite increased total calcium in a woman with immunoglobulin A paraproteinemia, diagnosed after the ruling out of hyperparathyroidism. Kwayess and colleagues describe two cases of post-parathyroidectomy thyroiditis. Ye and associates describe a case of severe hypocalcemia and hypophosphatemia causing respiratory failure in a man given denosumab and parenteral iron therapy in quick succession.

In Endocrinology, Svensson and coauthors report that not only circulating but also locally derived insulin-like growth factor 1 regulate the cortical bone phenotype in older mice. Costa-Guda and colleagues elucidate the influence of vitamin D1 deficiency on cyclin D2-induced parathyroid tumorigenesis. Hakata and associates report that inhibition of neprilysin significantly promotes skeletal growth via the C-type natriuretic protein/natriuretic peptide receptor-B pathway, suggesting an avenue for promoting growth in patients.

In Endocrine Reviews, Zhao et al. provide a “panoramic view of the intimate relationship between the neuroendocrine system and bone.” Koh and associates discuss preclinical rodent models for human bone disease and provide guidelines for clear reporting.

In JCEM, Hu and coauthors report on the genotypic and phenotypic spectrum of WNT1 variants in a large cohort of patients with osteogenesis imperfecta or osteoporosis. Favero and associates document an increased risk of vertebral fractures in patients with mild autonomous cortisol secretion and with adrenal incidentaloma. And Skov-Jeppesen et al. survey the effects of exogenous glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide and glucagon-like peptide-2 on bone turnover in people with type 2 diabetes.
