Obesity Fellows Program

The Endocrine Society is pleased to offer the 2nd installment of the Obesity Fellows Program, a blended learning experience on best practices in obesity care, exclusively for endocrinology fellows. Chaired by renowned obesity medicine expert Amy Rothberg, MD, DABOM, the Obesity Fellows program is an exclusive, application-based educational activity for current fellows, offering several modes of learning, including:

  • An engaging in-person program located in downtown Washington, D.C., at Endocrine Society Headquarters, September 27-28, where fellows get the opportunity to meet with the top experts in the field of obesity care and management.
  • 6 on-demand lectures with related pre- and post-test questions, covering foundational topics on obesity clinical practice; and
  • Complementary Endocrine News podcast episode

The program accepts up to 50 US-domestic fellows for full participation in the in-person program. Fellows interested in attending should complete the application. The last day to apply is July 19, 2024. Applicants should expect to hear back about their applications no later than July 31, 2024.  

Travel, 2-night hotel accommodation, and meal expenses will be covered by the Endocrine Society.

Learning Objectives:

Upon successful completion these educational initiatives, participants should be better able to:

  1. Discuss obesity as a multifactorial, chronic, complex disease, strategies for opening dialogues about obesity, and the effect of weight bias on patients.
  2. Apply updated knowledge of obesity pathophysiology and external environmental factors (e.g. social determinants of health) when developing treatment plans.
  3. Evaluate the risks, benefits, indications, and recommendations for behavioral counseling, individualized diets, physical activity, and technologies, for weight management.
  4. Manage the use of FDA-approved anti-obesity medications by integrating short- and long-term efficacy, safety, and patient-specific factors into treatment plans for sustained weight loss.
  5. Discuss the risks and benefits of weight loss procedures and surgeries and how to incorporate shared-decision making in patient consultations.
