He talks with Steven D. Wittlin, MD, from the University of Rochester Medical Center and guest expert Silvio Inzucchi, MD, medical director of the Yale Medicine Diabetes Center. The article featured this month, by Wang et al, was first published online in JCEM in July 2024: “Renal Protective Effect of Metformin in Type 2 Diabetes Patients.”

Meet the Speakers

Silvio Inzucchi and Steven Wittlin

Silvio Inzucchi, MD, is professor of medicine at the Yale School of Medicine in New Haven, Connecticut, where he serves as clinical chief of the Section of Endocrinology and medical director of the Yale Diabetes Center. He is well known as an author and lecturer in diabetes management for more than three decades. He served as co-chair of the ADA-EASD Position Statement on the Management of Hyperglycemia in Type 2 Diabetes and has held leadership roles in several large clinical trials related to diabetes medications and their cardiovascular impact.

Steven Wittlin, MD, received his medical degree from Sackler School of Medicine, Tel Aviv University, and completed his residency, including serving as chief resident, at Booth Memorial Medical Center in New York. Dr. Wittlin completed his fellowship at New York University. He is a past Chief of Endocrinology and Assistant Chairman of Medicine at Booth Memorial Medical Center. Currently, Dr. Wittlin has been Professor of Medicine at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry for more than 26 years. There he also serves as Director of Diabetes Services and Clinical Director of the Endocrine-Metabolism Division at the University of Rochester Medical Center. Dr. Wittlin’s research interests include diabetes, diabetes technology, and innovative treatments for diabetes. He has published numerous peer-reviewed articles and book chapters and received several teaching awards.

His interests include endocrine education, teaching inferential methods, and quality improvement.
